THE PRECIOUS LO
Nik Timar and Gil Masuda have been making music together for over twenty years. First as Circle Research and now, The Precious Lo’s, their music has always been rooted in funk. Whether hip hop, lo-fi or modern funk, their sound is heavy on the drums and synth, with the pocket being King.
In 2016, they teamed up with U.S. Producer, Tyler Smith to release “Night Ridin’” EP – a journey in G-Funk, Modern Funk and Boogie. The title track caught the attention of Walla P, who played it on his Voyage Funktastique radio show and monthly event of the same name.
Soon after, Nik and Gil linked up with Diggy Down Recordz in France to work with artists on their roster. The result was two successful 7” singles: “Rollerskate” with T-Groove (Japan) and “U Turn Me Up” with Hic Box (France).
Their album “Too Cool For Love” was released digitally in 2017. It featured guest production by Buscrates (Bastard Jazz), T-Groove (JVC Japan) and Tyler Smith. It also had a guest vocal appearance by Maylee Todd (Stone’s Throw). P-Vine Records licensed the album in CD format for the Japanese market in 2018.
In 2019, they released a 7” single with Amalia called “Sanctify feat. Brian Ellis”, the first release for new Canadian imprint, Love Touch Records. The limited run of 300 quickly sold out with many established DJ’s giving their nod of approval.
