About the label
Austin Boogie Crew Records (ABC) is an independent Black-owned record label specializing in modern funk. Since the label’s 2014 inception they’ve been pushing soulful, synth-heavy, club-friendly new music from around the world, branching across states and countries to create a diverse catalog of artists.
Modern funk heavy hitters like XL Middleton, Starship Connection, and Brian Ellis have all released seminal material on the ABC imprint. Breaking new artists is also a focal point of the label, exemplified by the vinyl debuts of Trailer Limon, Jonny Tobin, Lowmac, and many more. Their records have been championed by tastemakers like Kon and Michael 5000 Watts, and even danced to by the Jabbawockeez during an NBA Finals halftime show.
Alongside their label efforts, Austin Boogie Crew has operated as a DJ collective for a decade. The crew is comprised of Spence, Danbone, CG (Chicken George), Chorizo Funk, and Cyrus D. In 2011, they launched The Boogie in Austin, an 80’s funk dance party with live modern funk performances. Ten years later the night is still going strong, expanding to Los Angeles in 2017 with guests like Cut Chemist, DJ Rhettmatic, and Beverly Girl (Finland).
Recently ABC launched their annual label showcase Austin Boogie Fest, performed at Austin City Limits 2019, and provided opening support for George Clinton, Tuxedo, and Dâm-Funk. The collective also performed on J.Rocc’s Adventures in Stereo radio show and on dublab. In 2021 ABC will launch The Boogie on Twitch and unveil some of their biggest releases to date.
